About the Sentimental Journey Fly-In
The Fly-In is a great event for pilots, planes, and people who love aviation. The first Fly-in was in 1986, and was organized by a group of volunteers linking the Lock Haven airport to the history of Piper Aircraft, who built their airplanes at Lock Haven for nearly fifty years. In fact, almost all of the famous “tube and fabric” Pipers made their first flight from the Lock Haven runway. Our President for many years, Cal Arter, was a test pilot at Piper for years, flying Piper Cubs and other planes straight from the factory floor. He has some stories that will curl your hair.
Anyhow, the Fly-in now is into our 39th year and we have expanded beyond the original scheme of celebrating Pipers. Today, we welcome all makes and models to Lock Haven. Parked on our field during the fly-in you'll find Aeroncas, Bellancas, Cessnas, Cubcrafters, Luscombes, Pitts, Stearmans, Stinsons, Swifts, Taylorcraft, Wacos, and Vans, and just about anything else with wings. All pilots will find a welcoming home on our long grass runway or the long paved runway; your choice. Everybody and every plane is welcome!
Plus there are all sorts of activities during the week. There are educational forums, food every night, live music every week night, and free beer every evening after 5pm.
